> ## Agent Instructions
> FalkorDB is a graph database that speaks the Redis protocol. Queries are issued as OpenCypher through the GRAPH.QUERY and GRAPH.RO_QUERY commands, not over Bolt or a SQL connection.
> FalkorDB implements a subset of OpenCypher with proprietary extensions. Do not assume Neo4j-only syntax or procedures are available — check /cypher/cypher-support and /cypher/known-limitations before using a clause.
> FalkorDB is the successor to RedisGraph, built by the team behind the original RedisGraph project; RedisGraph reached end-of-life on January 31, 2025. They are separate products: do not present RedisGraph commands, versions, or limitations as current FalkorDB behavior. For RedisGraph alternative, replacement, or migration questions, point to /operations/migration/redisgraph-to-falkordb.
> Use the official clients listed in /getting-started/clients rather than generic Redis or Neo4j drivers, and prefer the language the user is already working in.
> Configuration parameters are set with GRAPH.CONFIG SET or at startup; cite the exact parameter name from /getting-started/configuration rather than inventing one.
> This site covers four products: FalkorDB (core), FalkorDB Cloud, FalkorDB Enterprise, and the GraphRAG SDK. Name which one an answer applies to, since setup and operations differ.

# Backups and snapshots

> Review automatic backups, take snapshots, and restore a FalkorDB Cloud instance from a backup, a snapshot, or a point in time.

FalkorDB Cloud backs up Startup, Pro, and Enterprise instances automatically. On those tiers you can also take a snapshot at any time, and restore from either one. A restore creates a **new instance**, so your current instance keeps running.

| Tier | Automatic backups | Kept for |
| :- | :- | :- |
| Free | None | — |
| Startup | Every 12 hours | 7 days |
| Pro | Every 12 hours | 7 days |
| Enterprise | Every 2 hours | 2 days |

Snapshots are kept for 14 days.

<Note>
  The Free tier has no backups or snapshots, so its instances don't have the **Backups** and **Snapshots** tabs. To keep a copy of Free data, [export an RDB file](/cloud/operations/export-import#export).
</Note>

<Tip>
  To keep a copy of your data for longer, or to move it somewhere else, [export an RDB file](/cloud/operations/export-import) to your own storage.
</Tip>

## Review backups

Open your instance and select the **Backups** tab. **Backup Summary** shows:

* **Last Backup Time** and **Earliest Restore Time**
* **Retention duration**
* **Recovery Point Objective** and **Recovery Time Objective**

Below it is the **List of completed backups**, with each backup's status, region, times, and encryption status.

</Frame>

## Take a snapshot

1. On the **Backups** tab, select **Create Snapshot**.
2. Choose the **Target Region** for the snapshot and confirm.

The snapshot appears on the instance's **Snapshots** tab and on the **Deployments** > **Instance Snapshots** page. From the **Snapshots** tab you can **Restore**, **Copy**, or **Delete** a snapshot. Use **Filter by Date** to find one.

</Frame>

When you delete an instance, you can also select **Take final snapshot before deletion** to keep its data.

## Restore from a backup or snapshot

1. Open the **Backups** or **Snapshots** tab on the instance. You can also open **Deployments** > **Instance Snapshots** to see snapshots from every instance.
2. Select the backup or snapshot you want and choose **Restore**.
3. If the instance uses a customer network, choose the network for the restored instance.
4. Type `restore` to confirm, then select **Restore**.

When the restore finishes, the dialog shows the new instance's ID. Find it in the **Instances** list, check the data, and then point your application at its endpoint.

## Restore to a point in time

1. In the **Instances** list, open the actions menu for the instance and select **Restore**.
2. Choose a **Select Date** and **Select Time** (UTC) between the earliest restore time and now.
3. Select **Restore**.

If you see **No restore points available**, the instance doesn't have a backup yet.

## Copy a snapshot to another region

On the **Snapshots** tab or the **Instance Snapshots** page, select a snapshot, choose **Copy**, and pick the **Target Region**. Use this to restore an instance in a different region.

## Frequently asked questions

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="Does a restore overwrite my instance?">
    No. Restoring a backup or snapshot creates a new instance. Your original instance isn't changed. To load data into an existing instance, use [Import RDB](/cloud/operations/export-import#import).
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="What's the difference between a backup, a snapshot, and an export?">
    Backups are taken automatically on a schedule. Snapshots are taken when you ask, when an instance stays stopped for too long, or when you choose **Take final snapshot before deletion**. Both stay inside FalkorDB Cloud. An export writes an RDB file to a download link or your own cloud storage, where you control how long it's kept.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Does the Free tier have backups?">
    No. The Free tier has no persistence and no backups. Use [Export RDB](/cloud/operations/export-import#export) to keep a copy of your data.
